While I have no reason to doubt Mike Davidson's flathead expertise, this "book" is little more than a moderately disguised home publishing of Davidson's off of a home PC. There are a few dyno tests of a very very few combinations - triple carbs with and without air filters, fuel injection with some different length stacks, etc, but none of the important stuff (ie, 2 vs 3 vs 4 carbs, various porting techniques, compression ratios, heads, etc.).
The are 55 paragraphs (+ or - 5) of actual printed content other then captions or screen captures from a dyno computer. Of these 55, several are a single sentence, and half are not even flathead related - they are on general knowledge hotrodding stuff. Nineteen paragraphs are on what a dyno is, why fuel injection is good, and why tuning is important - none of it flathead specific. It is embarassingly short with no new ideas or any real depth - It took 1 (yes one) hour to read cover to cover - possibly less.
In short, the pictures are great, the data is good (those two things take up 75% of the pages), but if you really want to learn about flathead tuning and performance, look elsewhere. There are many other good books like Tex Smith's or Frank Oddo's, s well as the H.A.M.B.
