(More customer reviews)I have a 1984 Accord, and this book has been a vale of tears for me. Pictures and diagrams are often wrong, and the repair procedures can ruin your day. My mechanic suggested throwing it in the trash and shelling out the $90 for the factory shop manual and electric wiring reference, and I'm doing just that. The price difference is trivial compared to lost time or trips to the repair shop that Haynes will cause you.

So when he asked for "More How Stuff Works", I got it without hesitation. This second book includes a lot of material that are now part of our everyday life. Even my husband and I found it useful when we had to open my computer to reset a jumper and we found what the jumper looked and where it is in the computer. I encourage adults to read this book, too. It's not full of technical jargon so it's real easy to understand.

(More customer reviews)I bought this book expecting it to be an updated edition of this author's former book "The Doctor's step by step guide to optimizing your ignition" which I borrowed from a friend and found quite interesting. Aside from new ilustrations for products offered by the author's former company (now owned by Rostra Precision Controls) that were re-designed or newly offered by the time of print plus the addition of a 10 page alphabetical index, this book is a page-by-page re-print of the former. If you are buying this book with the same expectations I had then you will be just as disapointed as I am with my purchase. Otherwise, it is just as insightfull on the theory of ignition as the previous book, but its views on hardware are no longer right as even most of the products made by the company which still bears the author's name do no longer work in the way they are described on the book. In a few words: good theory, but outdated. Hope the author will sit down and write a new book with updated reviews on the current state of ignition technology.

(More customer reviews)This book should have been titled "Electric Components and their History". Over 300 pages and most is about the components and their inner workings. Like what is inside a battery. Most of the batteries and motors are not even what you would use for a Motorcycle. The last chapter titled "The Build" is just a few more pictures from the first chapter. If you want to know about electric components this is the book for you. If you want to build an Electric Motorcycle forget it this is anything but that book. Very disappointing I expected to build a motorcycle not study history, most of which was outdated. Even reporting on the EV1 being distroyed, how long ago was that? This is a reprint not an update.

(More customer reviews)This book doesn't go into great detail about specific marques or engines, and isn't heavy into technical drawings or comparisons, and won't tell you how to win at Palm Beach, but if you're weighing the pros and cons of buying and restoring a British sports car and want to know what you're in for, this is the book for you. The author walks the neophyte all the way from choosing the right car to maintaining his or her finished beauty, and doesn't pull many punches. It was the first book I bought after I got my '67 MGB GT, and I still refer to it, if only for the pleasant writing style and as food for the daydreams I still have about finding that '63 E-type.

This book is very old and outdated, and most of the points do not make any sense. It continually says that aftermarket parts are inferior to GM parts. Plain and simply put, a lot of steps have been taken in the automotive aftermarket world that this book does not talk about nor should it, since it was written so long ago that Jegs, and Summit did not even exist.
Save your money instead of buying this book, unless you are a very unskilled, and you plan on using junk yard parts to build your engine.

(Note: I purchased this Kindle edition when it was free. At that time I rated the book 4 stars but I'm not sure I would have reviewed the book as favorably if I had paid full price. As I stated, much of the information can be found on the internet if you want to spend the time looking for it.)

(More customer reviews)The only thing I wish this book would have, that it DOESN'T, is color photos. Everything else, the info, numbers, photos, and the fact that it is VERY up to date, to include 05+ Mustangs, is SPOT ON. Couldn't be better.
I would definately reccommend this to ANYBODY wanting to learn how to build higher performance OHV 5.0, and Modular 4.6 and 5.4 Ford Small Block V8s.

(More customer reviews)This book is not about writing software for embedded systems. If that is what you want to learn about, you should read David Simon's book, "An Embedded Software Primer". However, this book does an excellent job of covering the PROCESS of designing embedded systems, from microprocessor selection to system debugging, and discusses the many engineering tradeoffs that need to be made in the design of real-world systems.
As a useful trilogy, I would recommend:
1) David Simon's book for learning how to write embedded software.
2) Jack Ganssle's "The Art of Designing Embedded Systems" for tips, tricks, and strategies on being a good embedded software designer.
3) This book, for understanding the engineering decisions that need to be made in the design of an embedded system, and for learning about the debugging tools and techniques available as well.

Ford is well represented only because they are so popular. It is a "handbook" that compares the principals of forced induction to natural aspiration. The book describes in laymen's terms the dynamic changes that occur when forced induction is applied to any internal combustion engine.
