Although it is Japans smallest motorcycle manufacturer, Kawasaki has had a huge impact on the motorcycling world. Here is the full story of this famous marque, including road and competition bikes. Ian Falloon delivers the background history of the Kawasaki company; chronicles the early racing days; Kawasakis two-stroke production bikes; the Green Meanies - the HR version of the 500cc four-stroke; the highly successful Superbike and Endurance racers of the 1970s; and the bikes of the 1990s which ushered in a new era of performance up through the ZX-12R introduced for 2000.

How to Build the Ultimate V-Twin Motorcycle Review

I actually liked this book. If you have in mind building your own motorcycle and have never done it before, this book lets you know what you are going to have to think about. It's not going to tell you exactly everything you are going to do step by step because every custom bike is different. But it does put in order the things you need to do once you decide what you want.
Maybe the other reviewers didn't realize that they would have to come up with their own ideas about what they wanted to end up with. This book is not about building a particular motorcycle, it is about building YOUR dream motorcycle, whatever style that may be.
I recommend this book to anyone who is considering building a motorcycle, who hasn't done it before and who has a pretty good idea of what they want to end up with. It will help you get your stuff together.

It's back. The book from Timothy Remus and Wolfgang Publications that helped to kick start the build-a bike-at-home phenomena, is in publication once again. Though the aftermarket offers new engines and frames not available when this book was written, the basics of building a bike remain the same. A quality frame remains a quality product. Safe rake and trail dimensions have not changed, and neither has the need for safe brakes that will stop you when that car runs a stop light or stops unexpectedly in the middle of the block. So for anyone who yearns to build a V-Twin at home, How to Build The Ultimate V-Twin Motorcycle remains an essential tool. Build Your Own with this timeless how-to book from Wolfgang Publications.

Build Your Own Electric Motorcycle (Tab Green Guru Guides) Review

Build Your Own Electric Motorcycle (Tab Green Guru Guides)

This book should have been titled "Electric Components and their History". Over 300 pages and most is about the components and their inner workings. Like what is inside a battery. Most of the batteries and motors are not even what you would use for a Motorcycle. The last chapter titled "The Build" is just a few more pictures from the first chapter. If you want to know about electric components this is the book for you. If you want to build an Electric Motorcycle forget it this is anything but that book. Very disappointing I expected to build a motorcycle not study history, most of which was outdated. Even reporting on the EV1 being distroyed, how long ago was that? This is a reprint not an update.

Helpful, informative, I'm glad I bought it. I especially like the little boxes at the start of each project that describe the time, tools, talent, cost, tips, gains, and complementary modifications needed or useful. This book gave me the courage to tackle a project I might have dodged and to avoid projects that were over my head. I only wish it were a little larger, say . . . 202 projects?

At first the books starts falling apart when looked in for the first time. The glue does not hold the pages together. Second, the quality of the "tips" Mr. Hammill provides us with is below average. The information provide[d to] the potential buyer is unadequate, when compared with the contents of the book. Example: there is no real tune-up info regarding some essential items like tuning carburettors and exhaust pipes.
Advice: a waist of money and time. A definite NO-GO!

How to Repair and Maintain American V-Twin Motorcycles (Motorbooks Workshop) Review

Average Reviews:

Sara Liberte's book is a great aid for riders like me who can't afford to take their bike to the dealership or a shop to have work done. I believe riders should be doing their own service work. You really know your bike when you are the one keeping it in good, safe running order. Make time to take care of your bike. It saves lots of money and I enjoy servicing my motorcycle. As opposed to fixing it because it was neglected.I think riders should service their own bike. You really know your bike when you are the one doing the service and keeping it safe. And the dealership is there if you get into something over your head. Keeping your bike safe is the most important thing. This book shows me how many things are done. It's a good addition to my motorcycle library.

While very informative it is not the book for a beginner. The projects are not detailed enough. Just about every project is only 2 pages. The color pictures are a plus but this book would at best be a good supplement to your library ,not a staple.

If you are a motorcycle enthusiast, a gear head, have an active bike building project or just thinking about one this is a great book to have as part of your collection. The book is geared, no pun intended, to the beginner but regardless of your level of experience it has some great tips to think of when doing a project, especially, as the book is focused on when you are on a budget.

In the old days all a person needed to build a killer custom motorcycle was a bike, a set of tools, a little know-how, and a creative vision. But with the rise of the high-dollar, haute moteur Gucci choppers, the true custom bike has gotten out of most riders' reach, right?

Dead wrong. In this book Jose de Miguel, a custom builder from way back, sets out to prove that those good old days never ended. In the clearest and simplest terms, he shows readers how they can turn odds and ends found around the shop into one-off motorcycle parts--and make a cheap, run-of-the mill custom build into a drop-dead show stopper. Following de Miguel's lead, along with his straightforward illustrations, any resourceful owner with rudimentary mechanical skills, a basic tool kit, and--most importantly--a modicum of imagination can build the bobber of his dreams for less than the price of a new bike.

I bought this book by mistake. I was looking for the "Big Twin High Performance Guide" from which this title uses a great deal of ideas.
Absolutely no technical help to do it yourself.
If you want a book with more technical information and some ideas of how to do your own tuning try the "Big Twin High Performance Guide" by D. William Denish instead.

As an intermediate level "hacker" when it comes to repairs, I had always been more comfortable having the local dealer take care of routine maintenance. Prior to receiving this book I was only changing the oil and transmission fluid on my bike. However, "armed" with this new found information I now cover the bike from front to end! The layout and excellent photographs are easy for even ME to understand!! There is not a lot of industry jargon involved, making it simple for the "mechanically handicapped" to understand. My only complaint is that the book is not longer and I am impatiently awaiting "Volume II."

I genuinely enjoyed both volumes of his Harley Encyclopedia. I am an amateur HD mechanic and have read all of the books by Rook, Buzzelli and every other performance book I could find. Peterson has a deep understanding and interest in HD engines. His comments are all well taken and even Denish's books don't get to Peterson's tech depth, though Peterson doesn't restrict himself to only performance related topics. Many of his chapters are purely engineering analysis and excellent nonetheless. I'm sorry he Didn't begin the projected 12 volume series with Sportsters, but I bought a 2001 TC88 yesterday and his books are the bibles. His writing style is more or a series of comments by category, but very readable and good natured. From a purely objective viewpoint, his books would only appeal to the HD enthusiast who really wants to master the machine. For my part, I loved them. I also recommend Denish (out of print) and Bill Rook's "How to build a Harley Torque Monster" (very available). Bill Rook's book is mistitled as it is truly one of the best and simplest performance manuals out there. Denish goes into deeper depth and is also excellent, but the Peterson books are as detailed as one can get. Both Rook and Denish illustrate their various techniques and thoeries. Peterson has no pictures and is for the technician who already knows how things work.

Let's Ride: Sonny Barger's Guide to Motorcycling Review

Let's Ride: Sonny Barger's Guide to Motorcycling

This is a tremendous volume of Sonny Barger's experience of motorcycles and motorcycling and the BEST read of any rider training book I've seen. I've read Hough, Hahn, MSF, Parks and many other professional riders' and journalists' rider instruction books and while all are helpful none compare with Barger's narrative style and readability.
Let's Ride is like a pleasant afternoon conversation with a wise rider who has clocked more than 1,000,000 miles in safety; it's an honesty account of riding, straight forward, doesn't preach, fun and gets the job done.
