I own a 2005 Toyota Sienna LE 8-passenger mini van. It has about 60,000 miles and is at the point where it's starting to fall apart.
Problem 1: LICENCE PLATE BULB: My licence plate bulb blew and the shop wanted $40 to replace it due to it's inaccessability. In this book, it shows it as very accessable, simply removing a plate held on by two screws above the license plate. That would be very nice, must be on one of the older models since this covers several years of Siennas. So I had to just figure it out on my own. (FYI: I had to remove the panel and trim from the interior of the hatch door to gain access to the bulb.) This book did not cover the design of the 2005 model.
Problem 2: SLIDING DOOR HANDLE: I live in Maine and it gets cold here. My van has two sliding doors. When the weather turns cold, the sliding doors freeze shut. If you try to open the door, the door handle breaks off easily because it is a very light weight piece of cheap plastic trying to pull on a very heavy sliding door. The piece that breaks is very tiny, about 1/8"- 1/4" square on the plastic handle. Once that breaks, the handle remains, but all the components drop inside the door. I believe the parts that drop inside are a wire and something else that is possibly a receptacle for a screw. I really don't know because I have yet to find them. This book says in the front that it only covers things that at a do-it-yourselfer could do. Okay, so again I just have to "do it myself", the book providing no instruction. I do think this will be a more advanced repair. I have no automotive experience. I will figure this out, though, on my own.
Sarcasm: This book DOES however give a full page of very detailed instruction on how to change your oil. Right down to how to wipe up drips and insert a funnel.... hahahaha. The one thing most everyone can do. You hardly need a manual for that. It goes into detail on how to replace windshield wiper blades. I bought mine at VIP and they just come out after you purchase them and spend about all of two mins bolting them down for ya...
This was a waste of money and poorly illustrated. I wish I could just get a book that shows the locations of all the screws and clips... the rest would be common sense. (Speaking of body hardware solely) I can find no info on how to make these repairs, if I do, I will add that reccomendation or resource to this review, if allowed.
