I own a 2006 Pilot EXL and have used this manual for a few easy maintenance jobs. I have purchased many repair manuals over the years, and as typical, Haynes does an Okay job of conveying most of the basic details. If you just want to do simple repair work, i.e. brake pad replacement, air filter, etc., then this manual should work fine. However, if you are looking for a more detailed book for major repair jobs (you know who you are,) then this may still be of value, but I suggest you find another reference to use as well. A factory repair manual might be best, or Bentley Publishing does a much better job at presenting the details (and more details) to the untrained, (especially the small ones that you would otherwise never know about.) Unfortunately, Bentley does not make a manual for the Pilot. So the biggest factor here is cost. Haynes price is cheap, and Factory Manuals cost anywhere from $60 to $120 depending on the year. So, you have to decide, how much information do you need? Assuming you can do the job yourself, the money paid on any (or all) of these books will almost have an immediate payback period.

Very informative with info on what each modification does to two-stroke power. You will understand just about the whole inner workings of a two-stroke motor once you read this book thoughly. Some paragraphs you may need to read twice, just because they contain so much info.

All About Your Car Review

There should be a choice "zero stars." I expected this to be a simple book. What I did not expect is many factual errors. A "D" size flashlight battery is not 9 volts, but rather 1.5 volts just like an "AAA" cell. Engine capacity is not "the volume of the piston chambers." A conceptual method to determine the engine capacity is to remove a spark plug, rotate the engine to bottom dead center on that cylinder, fill the cylinder with water, turn the engine to top dead center and measure the volume of water that came out of the spark plug hole. Multiply this volume by the number of cylinders and you have the engine capacity. Of course you wouldn't actually want to do this procedure, but this is an easily understood mind experiment that correctly gets the concept of displacement across to the reader. Power is not "potential motion" but rather a measure of how fast work is performed. A tappet is not a lever. There is no excuse for these errors; they are not the result of simplification.

Big-Block Chevy Marine Performance Review

Big-Block Chevy Marine Performance

Finally, someone has written a technical manual for those of us who like to fiddle with modern gasoline marine inboard and I/O engines. This book has been long overdue! There exists a plethora of books on building up hot-rod automobile engines, but the marine hot-rod has been mostly untouched. Dennis Moore does an excellent job presenting the subtle differences between a car engine and a marine engine, from the carburetor, intake manifold, heads, cam, to the critical exhaust manifolds and marine headers. Though this book is based on Chevy big blocks, the principles are easily adaptable to all makes of marine engines.
I am currently building up a Chevy SB 350 to a 383 "stroker" and have found this book indispensable. I highly recommend it for anyone who tinkers with marine inboards! Nice job Dennis!
