The Motorboat Electrical and Electronics Manual Review

(More customer reviews)I just spent my weekend propped up in the wheelhouse reading this book. It's a big read too. I have always had lots of problems on my motorboat and already this has solved two problems since starting it. At this rate I should have my boat fixed by spring. Its not too technical that a doctor cannot understand it(I fix people not boats), but it does cover all the practical information well. Kudos to Payne for writing a practical manual style book, layed out well and easily accessible information. The context is great too, I know how to relate my electrics to my engine, (and there is great engine information in this book) as well as water and every other system. He is welcome on my boat anytime and I cannot recommend this book too highly to any motor and power boat owner.

(More customer reviews)I had the first edition while we cruised the Sea of Cortez for 6 years. Used it extensively -- it was indespensible as we repaired many items and made many runs to the hardware store, etc. Looks like the second edition is even better.
We also found it very helpful in getting a taxi driver to take us to the right store -- we'd show him the picture and Spanish word for what we'd need, and it never failed that we'd end up at the right shop (sometimes the driver would even phone a buddy to figure out where to take us).
There just isn't any other Spanish-English dictionary that covers all the bizarre parts you need to keep a cruising boat working.

(More customer reviews)This book was written not by a design engineer or by somebody in management who worked in a boiler room for about a year before he married the boss's daughter. This is a book by someone who's been in the trenches and really knows what it means to run a plant, to maintain equipment and to do the hands on himself. Ken Heselton has dirt under his nails, I guarantee. It was refreshing to read this book and I refer to it often. It quickly replaced Kohan's boiler operator's guide as my favorite.

101 Jeep Performance Projects (Motorbooks Workshop) Review

(More customer reviews)I own an 09 Sahara, and bought this after thumbing through it at the book store.
It looks great at first glance, a lot of different topics, and ideas, but that's about all it has. The book has absolutely no specific information. The section on how to install a new front bumper is 4 pages, and I believe 8 steps. While, the AEV bumper that they are installing has 17 pages to the manufacturer's installation manual. There is no "extra" information that may make the job easier or true instructional information. Not to mention that there is actually a section about how to change the air filter. That takes up the same number of pages as installing auxiliary lights. I know that everyone has to start from somewhere, but if you need instructions on how to install an air filter, I don't think you need to be attempting any actual projects on your Jeep. I feel like this book was just an excuse to for the authors to write off their Jeep mods as a business expense, and try to make some money in the process.
If you are looking for ideas about what you can do with your Jeep I guess it is an ok buy, but there are much better free resources out there online. I suggest just googling "JK forums". There are a bunch out there that have far more content, and people who are happy to help you personalize your JK.
