This book is a total disappointment! What is pumped up to be a series of "projects" actually turns out to be a thinly disguised series of advertisements for the magazines paid advertisers' equipment. There are only a very few chapters out of the listed 25 "Projects" that are not advertisements. One on mounting and inflating tires (one page), a chapter on essential tools to take on the trail (2 pages), another on towing a trailer safely (three pages), a chapter on riding safely (3pages), a chapter on preparing for an ATV trip,(3 1/2 pages), How to use a winch, change clutch springs,(great for those 75% who have automatics with no clutches),change drum brake shoes (again great for the high percentage who have disc brakes), and How to fix a flat. As you can see most of these are not even close to being "Projects" but just standard ownership information that can be obtained anywhere, and the two actual "project" type articles ( brakes and clutch springs) have a very limited application.

The most popular type of ATV is the sport-utility quad, a machine that is both a fun, capable trail machine and equipped with racks and hitches so it is useful around the house or farm. This book shows how to do the most popular types of modifications to the ATV, most of which consist of bolting on a rack, or other accessory. Also included are some basic maintenance tips and a few performance modifications which include exhaust, suspension, and some drivetrain mods. About the AuthorLen Nelson is a long-time ATV rider and a contributing editor at ATV Rider magazine. He has worked for Motorcycle Online and several other motorcycle magazines and is a first-rate writer, photographer, and ne'er do well. This is a good manual for learning the basics of ATV maintance. That is it's only draw back it only covers the basics. As a new owner of a used ATV I did find information in the book that helped send me in the right direction. This book would also be good for someone looking to buy a used ATV. It has a section that tells you what to look for and how to check out a used ATV before buying.
