I have read this book to learn more about the in line chevrolet engine and what can be done with this engine. This book answered all my questions and more. It does not cover any 12 port heads though, hybrid heads are covered in one chapter. Leo Santucci was nice enough to list most modifactions by purpose (street, street/strip, all out drag) and tells you what to do to get the performance you desire without building an unuseable engine. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking the build a six with more than stock perforamnce.

Schaum's Outline of Russian Vocabulary Review

Schaum's Outline of Russian Vocabulary
Average Reviews:

Schaum's "Russian Vocabulary." This is supposed to a text in vocabulary building for everyday situations. However, the authors/publisher really missed the proverbial boat: There are no accent marks for any of the words in this book! The book title should be "We'll Show You What the Words Look Like in Print, But We Won't Tell You How to Pronounce Them Correctly." Any student of Russian knows how unpredictable the stress of Russian words is. It's really a rather nasty little joke to sell you a vocabulary book without the accent marks. You would have to look each word up in a dictionary to find out how to say it -- an impossible task. Ironically, accent marks are included in Schaum's Russian Grammar book. In short, this book is totally useless for learning new vocabulary unless you want to risk putting the accent on the wrong syllable (and perhaps totally changing the meaning of the word). What were they thinking!

The Perfect North Carolina Lawn: Attaining and Maintaining the Lawn You Want (Creating and Maintaining the Perfect Lawn)

This wasn't the book I expected it to be. I was ready for a book that would give me a quick answer to all my lawn question, but this isn't it. There is some work you need to do before you read this book. The major thing is find out the pH of your soil then go from there.
It is a lot of if you have A then do 1 and if you have B then do 2 answers. I was really expecting if you have fescue then do A, B & C and you will have a great lawn, but it isn't that easy.
It does make a good reference book after you do some work to find out a lot about your lawn and soil. I will put it on the shelf and when I see something strange I will consult the book but I don't think it is going to get a lot use.

Tom Swift and His Motor-Cycle Review

Tom Swift and His Motor-Cycle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Tom Swift is an above average teenager living in 1910; he is an inventor, and the son of an inventor. Tom's excitement begins when he gets the chance to trade his bicycle for a motorcycle, but really takes off when a group of scoundrels set their sights on stealing Barton Swift's (Tom's father) newest invention. Using his mechanical acumen, Tom helps anyone at the mercy of a malfunctioning machine, and foils the plans of those who would steal his father's newest invention.
This book is a wonderful window on the United States of 1910. When reading this book, one is struck by the mechanics of Tom's motorcycle, the quality of roads, the organization of the police, and so much more. The story is fascinating, and yet easy to read.
And now for the bad news: this book contains an African-American character that is routinely referred to as a "darky". He is ill-educated, and speaks in an irritating Amos and Andy patter, "He was a tramp, an' he had de nerve to ask me fer money--me, a hard-wukin' coon."
So, while this is a generally a very good book, its racism is a bit much to take. Overall, I would recommend that you consider before purchasing it for younger readers, but that it is still a book worth reading.

"That will do," answered our hero, and as he turned away from the window he saw that the man who had been inquiring about the mails was regarding him curiously. Tom thought nothing of it at the time, but there came an occasion when he wished that he had taken more careful note of the well-dressed individual. As the youth passed out of the outer door he saw the man walk over to the registry window.--This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

This is another good book on my hero Mr. William C. Durant the creator of GM. Mr. Durant defiantly affected the early automobile history more than any other one man ever. He was the worlds largest cart maker back in Flint Mi. & went on to save Buick from certain bankruptcy. Also creating GM with Buick as the cornerstone car & then adding Olds, Cadillac & Oakland (the forerunner to Pontiac) & many others that didn't pan out. He also started Chevrolet with his famous Buick race car driver Louis Chevrolet. Some other good reads are The Dream Maker 1979 by Bernard Weisberger and Billy Durant by Lawrence Gustin 1973. ... How to Build a Tin Canoe: Confessions of an Old Salt Review

How to Build a Tin Canoe: Confessions of an Old Salt
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Robb White's descriptions of growing up along the Florida Panhandle sets the stage for one of the funniest, most entertaining books I have read in years. Beginning with a gang of kids, toddlers in diapers to gawky teenagers, who wandered shallow bays and sandy beaches from dawn to dark, White moves on to his Navy years in Puerto Rico, where he spent his off hours (and there were a lot of off them) watching local boat builders, and finally beginning his own boat building business. Stateside, he followed the boat-building trade as best he could, struggling to earn a bare living, with long periods of cash-money work such as crewing aboard tugboats which pushed oil-laden barges around the Gulf Coast and up tiny tidal waterways. I practically rolled on the floor laughing at his accounts of life aboard the tugs, which included ritual trading of tattered "porn" magazines and a crewmate who literally "gutted" an annoying tug captain. Interspersed through lively, often hysterical, accounts of his travels and travails, are delightful chapters about small boats and boating: jury rigging ancient outboard motors, building classic fishing skiffs and featherweight sailing canoes, capturing and cooking the sealife of the Gulf. I couldn't put the "Tin Canoe" down, read it through without stopping and loved every page!

The Engineering of Chemical Reactions Review

The Engineering of Chemical Reactions
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used this book in my reactions engineering class. It was full of mistakes even though it was the 5th printing. The only reason the book was even useable was because Schmidt was a professor at the school I took the class at so he could clear up the mistakes in the book. The sections on CSTRs and PFRs was acceptable but still filled with mistakes and unclear problems at the end. So if you don't go to the University of Minnesota I would not recommand this book due to all the errors.

Employment opportunities for chemical engineers are moving away from petroleum and petrochemicals toward new applications such as materials processing, pharmaceuticals, and foods. Chemical reactors remain at the center of any chemical process; they are essential to improving existing processes and to designing new ones. Today and in the future chemical engineers must be able to use their knowledge of reactors in combination with other skills in order to think creatively and strategically about new processes and growing applications. The Engineering of Chemical Reactions addresses these issues by focusing on the analysis of chemical reactors while simultaneously providing a description of industrial chemical processes and the strategies by which they operate. Ideal for upper-level undergraduate courses in chemical reactor engineering and kinetics, this text provides a concise, up-to-date alternative to similar texts. In addition to the analysis of simple chemical reactors, it considers more complex situations such as multistage reactors and reactor-separation systems. Energy management and the role of mass transfer in chemical reactors are also integrated into the text. The evolution of chemical engineering from petroleum refining, through petrochemicals and polymers, to new applications is described so that students can see the relationships between past, present, and future technologies. Applications such as catalytic processes, environmental modeling, biological reactions, reactions involving solids, oxidation, combustion, safety, polymerization, and multiphase reactors are also described. The text uses a notation of reaction stoichiometry and reactor mass balances which is kept simple so that students can see the principles of reactor design without becoming lost in complex special cases. Numerical methods are used throughout to consider more complex problems. Worked examples are given throughout the text, and over 300 homework problems are included. Both the examples and problems cover real-world chemistry and kinetics.

MotoGP Technology Review

MotoGP Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One of the most fascinating things about motorcycles is how they manage to work. Two wheeled dynamics, steering left to turn right, reciprocating mass, inertia and how body position can have dramatic effects on the stability of a motorcycle. MotoGP technology explains it all in an arena where things are pushed farther and harder and with more financial backing than previous history, and shows that there is still a lot to learn about how this innocuously simple vehicle, the motorcycle, really works.
The information contained in this book will change the way you look at motorcycles, and particularly motorcycle racing. The technology, the money spent and the energy invested into this motor sport is captivating. The biggest flaw of the book is that it appears Spalding was under a great deal of pressure to get the book out quickly and there are quite a few errors in the text that were distracting. The brilliant photos and exceptional quality of the book more than make up for it. Spalding even goes into great detail explaining physics of motorcycle dynamics that changed the way I ride my motorcycle.
This book should be on the shelf of every sport motorcycle enthusiast, and every engineer-geek who loves to know more about how things work.

MotoGP is the premier class in motorcycle racing and it is there that the most sophisticated and alluring technology is found. For years Grand Prix motorcycle racing had featured prototype 500cc two-strokes, but the need for manufacturers to develop four-stroke technology led to the creation of the new championship formula in 2002, based on fire-breathing, 260bhp 990cc four-strokes.Competition is keen and factory teams guard their mechanical secrets and working practices very carefully. For these reasons it has been nearly impossible to closely examine bikes without bodywork or understand exactly how they are engineered and developed. Until this book.Author Neil Spalding's ability to spot subtle detail changes and incremental developments from the restricted confines of pit lane, and then to correctly determine how these modifictions affect performance earned him the grudging respect of top teams. Eventually, Neil was admintted into the inner sanctum of the elite racing departments and give unparalleled access to explore and photograph race bikes to prepare this book. The only restriction: he couldn't make public his information until the end of the 2006 season, the last year of the 990cc formula. This is the exciting story, told from the inside, of the most electrifying form of two-wheeled compeition and of the highly motivated designers, engineers, and mechanics who create these remarkable motorcycles.

Sailing Skills and Seamanship, BOOK (Us Coast Guard Auxilary Assoc)
Average Reviews:

Unlike many other sailing texts, this book covered a broad range of boating topics. Clearly not a sailor's fine-tuning tome, this book surprised me, however, by covering sail trim and boat balancing very adequately, and in some cases more clearly than more advanced sailing manuals. Since it's written for sailors in U.S. waters, it covers topics such as trailering, waterway navigation, and rules of the road for the U.S. more specifically than any other text I've seen.
All in all, I'd say this is my top choice for a text for a new sailor who's got down the sailing basics and needs to know the many practical aspects of safe sailing in U.S. waters.

How to Prepare for the ASVAB Review

How to Prepare for the ASVAB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I felt that this book was given a few bad reviews, so I thought I would respond.
I would like to preface this review by saying that I have been out of High School for 5 years, so I decided I needed a "Refresher Course" on my Math skills. When I first became interested in the Military, I took an ASVAB practice test and received a 77. I then decided that this score would not be acceptable, so I decided to study for the real test. I "studied" (meaning I took a few of the practice tests) for about 3 weeks. I have to say that the practice test was much harder than the real test, and I felt very prepared for the Real ASVAB. Well, I took the "Real" ASVAB and got a 98 AFQT and a 130 GT. Needless to say, I was very pleased with how this book gave me a needed refresher to some basic skills.
I also wanted to respond to a previous reviewer that commented that "None of the practice questions were on the real test." It is supposed to be a preparation for the real test using SIMILAR EXAMPLES of the Real test questions, not actual questions. I did find a couple questions that were very similar to questions in this book, but that is purely coincidental.
Also, my copy did not have the CD-Rom, so I cannot comment on its usefulness.
I only used the part of the book with the Practice Tests, not the review sections, so I cannot comment on the other sections usefulness.
Overall, I recommend this title!
Good Luck to everyone who is interested in joining the Armed Forces!

The new edition of this manual, which prepares young men and women for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, reflects the ASVAB as it is currently given to all U.S. recruits. With renewed interest in military careers since 9/11, this manual is now in greater demand than ever. It presents review courses in all test subjects and four full-length practice exams with questions answered and explained. Subjects reviewed include general science, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph reading comprehension, auto and shop information, math knowledge, mechanical comprehension, and fundamentals of electronics. The test's general structure is described and study guidelines are recommended.

As a owner of an older Bultaco Matador SD Mark 5 in need of major repair, I purchased this book in hope of finding enough information to augment my knowledge of the workings and technical specifications of the two cycle engine of such great fame and repoir. Within this publication was found a great wealth of information that was unknown to me. I found that much of this information was invaluable, carburetor breakdowns, bore specifications, and overall model specfications. Unfortunately, as time would eventually expose, the information included in this "technical manual" is marred by typographical errors and one horrendous job of editing. In my experience with this manual, I found it very helpful...and it will force you to to understand what went wrong with what you just fixed. Although the book may not be the answer to every problem that an old Bull has, it will at least give one direction in what may be happening. Spend the bucks and get out of it what you may.

Despite the generous humour found within, this is probably NOT the book you want to get if you need to find out particular data on your Jeep. The book seems to focus on common sense issues related to 4X4's in general, so it leaves much to be desired in terms of identifying axles, transmissions, transfer cases and the like. Oh yeah, there aren't any wiring diagrams included. I suppose the book was written on the premise that the reader should already know what s/he has in and around their Jeep...which, in a sense, kinda relegates the book to owner's manual status rather than being a bible on the subject. The Haynes manuals are much better.
