(More customer reviews)If you want to do-it-yourself repair a Landcruiser you may need a book, and there aren't many choices available. Like any book that covers multiple models, it is nearly impossible in 544 pages to cover everything, and it can get confusing finding the information on any specific item or model. For example, I bought this book to find the location of EGR valve on a 99 L/C but this book didn't help. Good as a reference if you can't find a manual more specific to your year/model.

(More customer reviews)THIS BOOK IS INCOMPLETE. I ordered this book to help me fix a specific problem with my 1995 Lumina APV: The automatic sliding side door has failed. Although this book is supposed to cover all 1990-99 model Lumina, Silhouette, Trans Sport, and Venture minivans, the book contains no mention that I can find of any automatic side door feature. There is a photograph of electrical contacts (Fig 4, page 10-3), but I have otherwise found no information in the wiring diagrams or anywhere else in the book about any wiring or motors used to operate the side door. If information about an ENTIRE SYSTEM is missing from the book, who knows whether the information needed for my next problem will be there?

I believe riders should be doing their own service work. You really know your bike when you are the one keeping it in good,safe running order. Make time to take care of your bike. It saves lots of money and I enjoy servicing my motorcycle. As opposed to fixing it because it was neglected.I think riders should service their own bike. You really know your bike when you are the one doing the service and keeping it safe. And the dealership is there if you get into something over your head. Keeping your bike safe is the most important thing. This book shows me how many things are done. It's a good addition to my motorcycle library.

(More customer reviews)There are two major publishers in the motorcycle maintenance handbook market, Haynes and Clymer. After doing some research on the net, I opted for the Haynes. I have since returned it and have ordered the Clymer. The basic problem that I had with the Haynes was that the print was very small. If I'm working on my bike, I want to be able to quickly glance at the manual for information as I'm working on the bike. I didn't think that this would be possible with the small print of the Haynes manual.

I'm kind of an idiot, so something like tightning the alternator belt needs to be explained pretty clearly for me. This book shrugs that type of basic adjustment off. It spends a lot of time on things (like rebuilding the transmission) which I am never likely to do. .
Hint for publishers: Maybe what we need is better description of the basic things people might actually do: change belts, tighten belts, change and gap plugs, change rotors, charge batteries and so forth. Think of the Reader's Digest car guide, but focus on specific details of a given model.

I was having trouble getting an '82 Virago I bought for a few hundred bucks to start, I was just making the process more comlicated than it needed to be. This book breaks down exactly what you need to do to get a motorcycle running. Now that I have my bike running pretty well, I can move on to all the custom stuff I want to do.
This book is so simple, when I first read it I didn't think it would work, the steps were just too simple and I thought what I was doing was correct (making adjustments to the carbs, overchoking, using starter fluid, etc, etc.) I was wrong, getting a bike running is simple and I forgot (or didn't know!?) that.

The Family Handyman: Simple Car Care & Repair Review

(More customer reviews)This book was easy to understand and as I was reading it, it seemed to cover a variety of very specific topics such as fixing sagging headliners and replacing an oxygen sensor. However, when I had finished, it seemed I hadn't learned a thing about the jobs foresaw myself tackling.
The book seemed to jump right from the incredibly basic (what octane do I need?) to the beyond-me (fixing a misaligned door with a block of wood and a big heave-ho) without touching on the more common points in between. For example, how to change oil was not covered, but there was a great section on how to wash (yes, wash) the car and why you should choose a natural chamois, along with a section on electrical work this weekend mechanic wanna-be wouldn't touch with the proverbial ten-foot pole.
The book does a great job explaining the things it actually does talk about, but this 180 page book is about 100 pages short. In other words, I'm definitely keeping the book in case I do want to try reattaching some peeling trim or replace a PCV valve (huh?) one day, but I still have to buy another to learn about the stuff I'm more likely to do in between, like change my own oil or deal with the beginnings of a little rust patch...

(More customer reviews)Anyone who works on their own Saab should know that the Bentley manual is King. There's just not a better manual out there. However, even this book is lacking in a lot of ways. For one, it's not for the beginner or for someone who's afraid of messing up their car. This book assumes you have a fairly well-established knowledge of the car and skips a lot of details it assumes you'd know. A total novice would be lost with this book.
On the other hand, if you do know these cars pretty well, the Bentley manual can help fill in the blanks of a project you'd otherwise not want to do if you didn't have a little guidance. Not for the faint of heart though.

Mel Ramos Pop Art Fantasies: The Complete Paintings Review

(More customer reviews)While the majority of this book looks great, it is dragged down by very poor reproduction on several of the images. I understand and appreciate that doing a complete monograph of a particular artist with a large output can be daunting. There is no excuse, however, for the poorly photographed images that were used for some of the paintings. I have been an amateur photographer for over 20 years and I can say with great confidence that a cheap "point-and-shoot" camera had to have been used on at least a few of the paintings. Poor color quality, washed out areas caused by the flash, bad lighting, extremely grainy images. This is basic photography 101. Some of these problems could have been taken care of with photo manipulation software as well. This does not appear to have been employed either. I know that some of the same paintings are reproduced in other art books in much better quality, so good photos do exist. I do, however, give it the benefit of the doubt in my rating, for the rest of the book. If not for poor quality control this would be highly recommended.
